Suzuki Motor Corporation to launch electric vehicles in the Indian market
While its arch rival Honda Motors has recently unveiled Micro Commuter Concept electric car in the Japanese market, the Suzuki Motor Corporation is planning to launch a series of electric vehicles in the Indian market.

While speaking to PTI on the sidelines of recently inaugurated Tokyo Motor Show, Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Director and Executive Vice President, Executive General Manager (Corporate Planning Office), said, “It is under consideration to launch electric vehicles in India.”
The company however, sees the lack of infrastructure for the electric cars in India as a big challenge for selling electric vehicles in the country. Mr. Suzuki added that the company cannot tell what the specifications are. There is possibility, but the only problem is infrastructure in terms of electric plugs, he said.
Meanwhile, Suzuki Motor is showcasing a number of new age fuel-efficient cars at the recently commenced Tokyo Motor Show. The line-up these cars include new Electric Hybrid Swift, new highly fuel efficient Alto Eco that is claimed to be having a considerably high fuel economy of over km per liter. Moreover, a new electric concept scooter Swift Sport was also showcased at this show.
While speaking on the possibility of rolling-out more diesel engines in the Indian market, Mr. Suzuki said, “We are trying to line up more diesel engine cars…When we are introducing more models in India, we will put more diesel engines.”
