New 2011 Mahindra Duro 125DX

After taking over the ailing Kinetic around three years back, everyone of us expected Mahindra to storm the two wheeler segment similar to what it did to the four wheelers. The start was also good with Rodeo and Duro and rebadged Flyte Powerscooters. It is in the motorcycle segment Mahindra seemed to be struggling a little but its understandable that it’s a very fiercely fought market and it will take them some time to do something of the sort of Scorpio or Bolero to it.

Turning our attention back to the product in hand, Mahindra, as of now, seems to be paying more heed towards the ‘more’ successful part of their stable – their Powerscooters. And the new offering we have, comes in the form of Duro 125 DX which essentially is the higher variant of their existing scooter Duro.

Very recently did they organize a press meeting unveiling the new variant and talking about the product and their future plans in detail. Let’s have a preview of Duro 125 DX

• Engine: The new Duro is powered by a fuel efficient digital ignition (DI) engine which produces 8 bhp of power and 9 Nm of torque.
• Inclusion of Telescopic Suspension: Duro DX comes shod with Advanced hydraulic front telescopic suspensions unlike the traditional unit link type of the existing Duro.
• Better Mileage: According to Mahindra’s tests the IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) value of Duro DX is 53 kmpl which is an impressive figure for a 125cc automatic scooter.
• Longer wheelbase: Duro has a longer wheelbase of 1270 mm which helps in the stability of the scooter.
• High ground clearance: The new Duro DX has a higher ground clearance of 155mm which was one of the major reported issues on the Duro.

• More effective headlamp: The DX version of Duro now comes with broader headlamp with halogen bulb for a more effective and wider throw.
• Large Storage Space: Often called as ‘boot’ in cars, Duro dx has large storage space under the seat.
• Stylish Aesthetics: The handlebar is higher than other scooters which doesn’t get blocked with rider’s knees especially the taller ones.
• Superior Safety: Duro DX has now 4 point mounting of its tyres. It also comes with better and wider rear view mirror. Brake lever lock to prevent the scooter from tipping over is also provided.
• More Comfort: Duro DX also has wider and more comfortable seats
• Better Braking System: Mahindra has also tinkered with the braking of the bike to give it more bite.

Duro would be officially launched in the market sometime during the first or second week of December. Also, the existing Duro would continue to sell and this would be put ahead of it and hence would come at a higher price tag which is not revealed yet.
