Costing Rs 27,630 more than the existing 1.1-litre petrol model, the new factory-fitted LPG version of the i10, namely the blue drive, will be sold in two trim levels and promises buyers an improved fuel economy and reduced emissions

Four years since its introduction as an urban small car for Indian roads, Hyundai’s i10 continues to pride itself in being Hyundai best-selling compact hatchback model, both in India and in a number of international markets where it is exported.

In an effort to further expand the extensive market demand for its peppy multi trim level small car, Hyundai has gone the eco-friendly way and just introduced to its interested small car buyers, a new factory-fitted LPG version of the i10.

With a ‘blue drive’ badge that will set it apart from its CO2 puffing peers, the LPG spec model of the i10 will be find refuge in the i10’s 1.1 Era and 1.1 Magna variants. With separate petrol (35-litre) and LPG (34-litre) tanks, present day i10 customers can now choose from a peppy petrol or a fuel-efficient, eco-friendly LPG model.

HMIL MD and CEO H W Park said, “The LPG version of our next gen i10 is a viable alternative for customers looking at low running costs. With the launch of the i10 Blue Drive, Hyundai is broadening its eco-friendly initiative. Hyundai  believes in preserving the environment by making eco-friendly cars that run on low emission fuels.”

Just like all LPG powered small cars in India, the new i10 ‘blue drive’ will have its obvious disadvantages as compared to its lighter and better powered petrol and diesel competitors. But being a Hyundai, some delightful engineering in the form of a special impact resistant ‘toroidal’  LPG tank, that makes room for added boot space, and a fine-tuned Alternator Management System (AMS) for controlling delivery of power to the battery, makes the i10 LPG model something worth considering.

Expect fuel efficiency figures on this ARAI certified LPG model to be top notch, with a manual shift indicator that will be offered as standard feature in this model.

Being offered with full 2-year manufacturer warranty benefits, the new Hyundai i10 LPG Era (1.1-litre) model will sell for Rs 4.16 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the better furnished LPG Magna (1.1-litre) model will retail for Rs 4.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
