Chevrolet Volt Electric Vehicle at the Guangzhou Auto Show
Just a week after showcasing its new generation Chevrolet Volt Electric Vehicle at the Guangzhou Auto Show, the US based leading car maker General Motors has launched this much awaited car in the Chinese market. The car carries a price tag of $78,300 in China, where it will be available for sale at 13 dealerships of the company spread across 8 cities of Beijing, Sozhou, Shenzhen, Wuxi, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Foshan. The Launch of Chevrolet Volt Electric Vehicle can be seen as a part of ‘Drive to Green’ scheme of Shanghai General Motors, through which it will be rolling-out a series of new electric and hybrid cars in China by year 2015.
Due to heavy duty on imported cars in China, the Chevrolet Volt carries almost double price tag in Chinese market as compared to the price in US market. In last few years, the demand for green cars like Chevrolet Volt has surged considerably in the Chinese markets. To capitalize on this rising demand, the car makers like Volkswagen and GM are planning to set-up their facilities in the Chinese market, so that they can take advantage of incentives offered by the government on locally assembled electric cars.
China is the first market after US where the Chevrolet Volt Electric Vehicle is launched by GM. However, the car is not expected to hit the Indian roads in near future.
