BMW is preparing to launch a hot version of the X6 M550d uses a diesel engine
BMW is preparing to launch a hot version of the X6 cross-coupe. The new SUV has been tweaked by BMW’s in-house tuners at M-Division. But, unlike other M-cars, the X6 M550d uses a diesel engine. A few weeks back there were rumours that the folks at M-Division were working on a high-performance diesel motor to power future BMW performance cars. Some say, it uses neither one, nor two but, three turbochargers making it a tri-turbo diesel. BMW hasn’t revealed any details at the moment but power is definitely going to be on the higher side.

More importantly there will be boot full of torque to play with. That said, I suppose, the teaser video released by BMW features the new X6 M550d but most of the bits have been blurred out. BMW probably wants to keep us guessing till the last moment. However, the changes on the facelift are pretty much standard including some LED treatment to the headlights as well as new tail lights. There might also be a pair of mufflers on either side of the hotter M550d version. An M-performance aesthetic package too will be standard on the car. Now, this not the first performance diesel vehicle that the Germans have made. Earlier, Audi launched an Audi Q7 with monstrous V12 diesel.

The 6.0 litre V2 TDI diesel engine generates 500 bhp and a bone-shattering 1000 torques. The monster comes alive at just 1750 rpm catapulting the heavy off-roader from 0-100 kph in 5.5 sec. Now that’s quite impressive for vehicle that tips the scales to 2.5 tonnes. In the olden days diesels were thought to be dull and boring, a workhorse of the industry. Now though, with advancement in technology diesel power has been widely accepted. We at IndianCarsBikes.in love diesel powered automobiles. The low end torque is just too addictive for us. They isn’t much punch at the top end of the rev range, agreed but modern diesel engines from BMW, Audi etc. aren’t exactly boring at the higher end of the rev band either.
